Terminology

TUBE

The word TUBE includes many things. First of all, usually the best difference to underline is between the word TUBING and PIPE. Even if both are used to refer for the transport and distribution of gases, fluids, chemical substances ect, we use the word TUBING when we talk about tubes with small diameters. In addition, they are used for short distances and for specific applications usually with control instruments that control the substance that flows inside. They are also more flexible, malleable and light than pipes.

TUBING IN COILS AND IN RODS

Referring to tubing, an important specification concerns the execution: in rolls or in rods.

TUBING IN COILS

Tubing in coils are realized in coils with a continuous length and, for this reason, it is more suitable when a variable length is required. Depending on the material, Tecra can supply coils with a length of 100 -110 m.

In case of copper or dekabon tubes, also 50m-long coils also be supplied.

TUBING IN RODS

Tubing in rods are usually manufactured with a standard length of 6 or 7 m. On customer request, rods can be cut to 3 m length. Tubes in rods are used especially in all systems and applications for which a precise and uniform length is required. As indicated by the name itself of the tube, it is more rigid than the alternative in coils.

PIPES

On the other hand, pipes have got bigger diameters and are used for longer kilometric distances. They are made of robust materials and used for high pressure applications and/or in hard and extreme working conditions.

In both cases they must be realized with materials supporting high pressure and temperature beside corrosion.

USES TUBING AND PIPES

With reference to the uses, tubing and pipes are employed in several fields:

  • Industrial plants (chemical, petrochemical, food etc) for fluid and gas transportation;
  • Medical and healthcare systems for gas flow;
  • Electro-instrumental systems;
  • Technological systems;
  • Refineries;
  • Water treatment plants in general.

At the end, for what concerns fields that Tecra deals with, its products are usually manufactured in steel and other metal alloy to be suitable for gas, water, oil and chemical substances flow.
