Forged Fittings
Forged Fittings are manufactured from a drop forged block and, by processing with CNC machinery, they acquired the desired shape and connection (tee, elbow, cross stc).
They are usually durable and resistant fittings. In most cases they are realized in carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel to withstand high pressure.
INSTRUMENT THREADED FITTINGS
Threaded fittings are widely used. They are divided into two categories depending on the position of the thread: external or male thread and internal or female thread. Furthermore, ends can have the same type of thread that can be male-male or female-female or a different type for each end.
Thread lets screw tubes to the fitting and, combining to the corresponding tube, it ensures a strong and hermetic seal. Perfect adherence avoids leaks; this effect can be improved using tubes sealants.
When using metal fittings, attention must be paid to their use at high temperature because expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes can damage fittings in the long term. On the other hand, they are suitable for high pressure environments even if also continuous vibrations and extreme temperatures can cause damages over time.
There are also other kinds of threads:
- NPT also said National Pipe Thread highly spread in the USA and Canada. The thread angle is 60°. It is a self-sealing thread.
- BSPT or British Standard Pipe Taper is widely used in China and Japan. It is a type of tapered thread, but in this case it has got an angle of 55°. Also in this case it is a self-sealing thread or by means of sealants;
- BSPP or British Standard Pipe Parallel. It is a thread with sealants or with washer. It is spread in the rest of the world.
WELD FITTINGS
With reference to dimensions, weld fittings adapt to pipe diameter and to the kind of application it can be used for. They can be T-shaped fittings, elbow fittings or sleeve fittings.
In this case the fitting is welded so that welding gives more strength, avoids leaks permanently and assures a higher level of security.
This category includes:
- Buttweld (BW) fittings also called butt welding forged fittings that have got beveled ends. They are usually welded to tubes and their dimensions vary depending on the nominal pipe size. Furthermore, they are used also in pipeline systems for liquid and gas transportation on short and long distances.
-
SOCKET WELDING (SW) forged fittings - series 3000,6000, 9000.
In this case fittings is put within a sort of pocket; then, it is thanks to welding that fitting strength is guaranteed. - Threaded fittings (THD), class 3000 and 6000.
