Today, following market trends, European targets for 2030 in terms of “green transition” and due to the geopolitical situation, also in Greece attention is more and more paid to the energy industry and choices seem to move towards two directions.
From one side, the Country is more likely to invest in renewable energy, such as natural gas, in order to pursue the goal of being more sustainable and to diversify the sources of energy reducing the dependence on fossil fuels.
For these reasons in the last years many oil exploration activities have been authorized.
From the other side, Greece wants to identify its own hydrocarbon prospects.
Moreover, Corinth Refinery, that is the biggest oil site of the Country, is currently subject to extension and plant green transformation work.
In the end, regarding the relationship with Italy, there are successful and historic bilateral relations between the two countries thanks to the good reputation Italy gained in Greece and trading operations (import and export) take the top places in comparison to those of the other European partners.
Italy, in fact, can be considered one of the main business partner and it takes part in many projects dealing with energy infrastructure. At the same time, many Italian companies chose to establish their registered office or branches there or rely on local sellers and agents also because, in some cases, Greece represents a bridge towards Asian and Middle East markets.
