Twin ferrules compression fittings
Compression fittings ensure watertight and hermetic seal and withstand high pressure because when the nut is clamped to the fitting body, a twin ferrule is compressed to the tubes itself.
They consist of 3 parts: the body that holds the tube, the nut that fixes the body to the tube and a twin ferrule. The correct sequence is: nut – back ferrule – front ferrule – body of the fitting; but, the crucial element is the twin ferrule that ensures the seal. In order to avoid system damages and to guarantee a perfect seal, the ferrule must be built in the right direction.
Once the nut has been clamped, ferrule ends engrave the tube creating a tight connection. It is important not to tighten the nut too much to avoid fitting damages; in fact, when it is too tight, ferrule can distorts, no longer ensuring the perfect seal and, rather, fostering leaks.
The advantage of compression fittings is the fact that they are fixed through compression and they don’t need to be welded; so they are very easy to use, but at the same time they are efficient.
For these characteristics they are used in high pressure environments ensuring no leaks and a perfect seal in vacuum.
